My name is Dr. KD Wagner. As a mother who lost two sons in separate homicides at 18 and 24, I help women who have experienced a tragic loss, who are struggling with suicidal thoughts, and who cannot find a reason to stay alive. I give them hope and ways to move forward, find their new purpose, and honor their loss so they, too, can learn to live life again.

Before tragedy reshaped my world, I was a mother like any other, dreaming of bright futures for my sons, Jeffrey and Bud. Their laughter filled our home, their aspirations painting a vibrant future. Yet, fate had a different story to write. In the cruelest of twists, I faced the unimaginable – losing both my sons in separate homicides. This cataclysmic shift in my life’s narrative compelled me to embark on a journey of profound transformation.
Jeffrey, my vibrant teenager, was taken by a senseless act of violence, a nightmare no parent should ever endure. His loss was a tidal wave that nearly swept me away. But before I could find my footing, tragedy struck again. Bud, my brave son serving in the U.S. Navy, was taken from us, compounding my grief with an unbearable weight. In these darkest moments, I made a promise – to honor their memories not in silence but in action.
This promise led me to pursue higher education, each degree a testament to their lives and a foundation for the work I do today. I penned their stories, raw and unfiltered, in my books “Jeffrey – The Injustice of Murder,” “Bud – Homicide Turns a Blue Star Gold,” and my own narrative, “Kathy – How I Survived Tragic Loss.” These pages are more than just words; they are a sanctuary for others who tread the painful path of loss.
The Gold S.T.A.R. program emerged from this crucible of pain – a haven for healing, understanding, and growth. Here, I offer not just my empathy, but a roadmap to navigate the treacherous terrain of grief. Through my story and our collective journeys, we find strength, hope, and a renewed sense of purpose. This is not just my legacy but a shared journey towards a future where joy can bloom once more.
